National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS offers funding to eligible individuals with disabilities, enabling them to spend more time with family and friends, gain greater independence, access new skills, find employment or volunteer opportunities, and improve their quality of life.

In addition, the NDIS connects people with disabilities to community services, including doctors, community groups, sports clubs, support groups, libraries, and schools. It also provides information about the support available from each state and territory government.

Currently, the NDIS supports over 500,000 Australians with disabilities, helping them access necessary services and supports. This includes approximately 80,000 children with developmental delays, ensuring they receive early interventions for the best possible outcomes throughout their lives.

Who is eligible for NDIS?

Eligibility depends on a few factors:

1. Age requirements: You must be between the age of 9 and 65 to be eligible.

2. Residency requirements: You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who holds a Protected Special Category Visa.

3. Disability requirements: You must have a permanent disability that significantly impacts your ability to communicate, move, care for yourself, or manage daily activities.

4.
Early Intervention: You may be eligible if early intervention could significantly enhance your or your child's functioning, or delay or reduce a decline in abilities and reduce the support required in future.
